RiskGONE

RiskGONE (Science-based Risk Governance of Nano-Technology) is an EU H2020 project aiming at providing solid procedures for consistent risk governance of engineered nanomaterials.

This project will recommend adjustments to current guidelines or develop nano-specific guidance documents for the risk assessment of ENMs. Specifically, it will evaluate, optimise and pre-validate standard operating procedures and test guidelines and integrate them into a framework for risk governance. Relying on current strategies for risk assessment of conventional chemicals, this new framework will comprise modular tools. It will incorporate ethical aspects and societal risk perception, and also manage acceptable and unacceptable risks through transfer or mitigation.

This project has received funding from European Union Horizon 2020 Programme (H2020) under grant agreement nº 814425.
Budget: 5 million €

NANORIGO

NANOtechnology RIsk GOvernance aims to develop and implement a transparent, transdisciplinary Nanotechnology Risk Governance Framework and a related Risk Governance Council.

Assessing nanotechnology in terms of social, environmental and economic benefits requires a new risk management approach. With this in mind, the EU-funded NANORIGO project is formulating a new approach based on available and new high-quality data and advanced scientific tools developed for industry and regulators’ decision-making. Feedback from stakeholders (regulators, industries, policymakers and civil society) will also be considered. Potential hazard and exposure will be explored. The project will use a life cycle perspective and integrate available knowledge on ethical, social, environmental and economic concerns into a user-friendly format that can be easily adapted and transferred into regulation for hazard, exposure, and risk assessment and management of nanomaterials. A web-based information and communication platform to facilitate access to data will also be launched.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, under the grant agreement nº 814530.
Budget: 4.7 million €

Gov4Nano

The Gov4Nano project will develop the first implementation of a future-proof operational Nano Risk Governance Model (NRGM) that addresses the needs of the transdisciplinary field and innovative (and key enabling) character of nanotechnology.

The EU-funded Gov4Nano project will design and create a self-sustained Nano Risk Governance Council (NRGC) to implement the Risk Governance Framework for managing nanotechnology risks relevant to social, environmental and economic benefits. The team will develop an operational transdisciplinary Nano Risk Governance Model for nanotechnologies lying on a framework developed by the International Risk Governance Council. The NRGC will engage and coordinate stakeholders to overcome the fragmentation of existing knowledge and information, prepare its transfer, and establish a self-sustainable Nanosafety Governance Portal for dialogues between stakeholders.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement nº 814401.
Budget: 9.6 million €
